In this competition, organized by CoARQ, the requirement was to develop an architectural proposal for a 50 room hotel on a freed plot adjacent to Guadalajara’s Cathedral, which could establish a dialogue with the strong historical presence there, while offering services appropriate with our times. The typical hotel program nowadays needed to take advantage of a 500 year history background. The building aspires to absorb the background forces operating as a social sponge, attracting touristic, aesthetic, and cultural events from the public spectrum from Guadalajara Square through the social program articulation of its corner. Rooms are organized in the spaces left by the porosity generated by patios and vertical and horizontal openings, a concept also materialized by the lattice façade. The idea is not to clean the volume, but to soak it with identity and reinterpret its front to the city, dressed in austerity and textures.
